Week 1 – Matte Painting
Digital matte painting
Week 2 – FRANKENSTIEN
For my Frankenstein project I want to create Frankenstein’s lab. I could model key elements like the table in Maya, and then construct the scene in unreal engine.
Moodboard
For inspiration I looked at the sets of various films including Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water and Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things. I want to stick to a muted, almost black and white colour scheme, keeping in theme with the old Frankenstien movies, this will then allow the accent colours of blue or green to really pop.
Rough slap comp
Frankenstein Progress
First I modelled the table that my “monster” would lie on, I based this model on the table from the slap-comp I did earlier. Then I created a “monster” using basic geometry, it didn’t need to be detailed at all, just the general shape, as I am covering it with a sheet.I then did an nCloth simulation in Maya to cover up my monster. Finally I textured my model in Substance painter. I added some procedural blood, which I think really helps sell that there’s something lurking underneath the cloth.
Import into unreal
The plan for this is to have electricity sparking from the “emitter” and lighting the scene.

Challenge Brief
For the challenge brief I wanted to explore Photogrammetry, over Christmas I scanned many objects, one of my more successful scans was a gingerbread house I made with my niece and nephew.
