Basic Rigging and applying Mocap to a Rig
Given motion capture data this task was to create a rig for the given mesh and then subsequently apply the capture. While a simple task top accomplish the challenge was to achieve a result with as little distortion to the mesh as possible. The issues with the wrist of my skeleton are an example of the kind of things to avoid.
After completing the task with the skeleton mesh the next challenge was a less proportionally appropriate cave troll mesh which as seen below presents a whole new challenge when the mesh begins to collide with itself clipping its own geometry.
Character Design
My idea for the character I will create Is a robotic figure cover in 80s and 90s style technology such as VHS and tape players. The Head appears like an old CRT TV screen but within its filled with water containing a corpse which the robot animates through wires in an attempt to speak.
On the robots back is an arm connected to a second head which talks back through an Ai sounding voice and 8bit textures of a cartoon face
Creature Development
Beginning with the creature design I knew that I wanted to take inspiration from the Thanator from Avatar a huge hairless predator with an almost orca like texture however hunting on land.
I didn’t like the six legged design so for my anatomical reference specifically in terms of muscle structure I gathered pictures of hairless or shaven dogs. I quickly began to develop a front heavy design so resawt for reference specifically of bulldogs to help me design these strong front legs with roaring biceps and shoulders with an almost understated pair of hind legs.
When imagining my running cycle I realized I need to balance out the design of my legs so I built up the musculature of the rear of my beast by carving away at the form to add definition to muscles and seems in the skin.
The feet of the creature would at the back follow a paw like structure however at the front would take a closer resemblance to lizards and reptilian figures taking reference for Iguanas and Komodo Dragons.
