Live Brief

Week 1 – Matte Painting

Matte paintings go back almost as far as movies themselves. Predigital matte paintings were hyperdetailed paintings on a large pane of glass which gets exposed onto a reel of footage which when film will have had a blackout mask preparing the film for the painting to be exposed onto the gaps later.

while the practical aspect of physical paint has gone to obscurity the practice has remain wherein sets will be extended using digital matte paintings which in the same way follow the contours of an existing set to seamlessly transition to a fictitious environment.

Week 2 – Frankenstein Brief

Create an  establishing shot for the new  Frankenstein movie by  Guillermo del Toro
This can be an environment or asset.
It needs to be a finished shot, well lit, with well-timed movement and considered composition.
Completed in 2 weeks – Dailies next week,  Submission & Breakdown 21st October
I knew immediately from the brief I wanted to tackle something akin to Pinocchio. I’ll attempt something with a model plasticine aesthetic incorporating the gothic tone of Frankenstein.

I like the frequent return to the pushing in establishing shot of the tree in Pinocchio. I’d like to recreate that environment of the hill and the slow push in but replace the tree with a gothic 19th century house atop. I’d like to add a flash of lightning the returning motif from the original book.

WEEK 10 – Christmas Advert Pitch

Pitch 1 –

Something akin to the video below but using Christmas songs and a funky environment to bring it to the Christmas branding and appeal.

Pitch 2 –

Inside every coke can what is there? Joy and Christmas brings joy to the world. I’m picturing a simple eye-catching billboard advert. The stark red in a white void.

But then the can begins to twinkle, sparkle even! What’s this!? The metal at the top seems to begin to disappear dissolving into magic. More of the can begins to disappear; enough that coke begins to spill out over the receding edge. And, it’s revealing something. there’s something in the can?

A CHRISTMAS TREE!

Pitch 3 – Dancing Santa
