Week 1 – Intro & Modelling
Week 2 – Particles
Week 3 – Pyro
Week 4 – Water Simulation
Week 5 – Terrain & Vellum
Resemblence in the world-building in films & games
- Chebyshev noise type
- Arrakeen from Dune (2021)
- Worley noise type
- Arrakis dune from Dune (2021)
- Alligator noise type
- Mordor from The Lord of the Rings
- Worley noise type
- Ice planet from Planet Quest
- Mask colour graph
- According to the graph, this will allow me to display and technically label which part of the terrain is what element. I think this would massively help me if I were to export this to a different software such as Unreal or Maya when I’m adding details like water etc.
Week 10 – Spreading fire
By adding a copy & transform node to the tube, then adding pyro FX that will spread the fire that will also effect the other duplicated tubes.
Week 11 – Water
Assignment
Coming off watching both of the Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films several times, I’m still in awe by the immense amount of sand simulation and how their various flowing or bursting movement in Arrakis, in particularly when the Fedaykin and Shai-Hulud emerges from the sand.
Parameters/nodes to look out for in Houdini:
- Volume grain
- Scale
- Velocity
