Visual Narratives

Shutter Speed:

    • Shutter speed is the speed at which the camera’s shutter opens and closes.
    • When you take a photo, the shutter opens to allow light to pass through the lens and exposes the camera sensor to it.
    • The length of time the shutter stays open is determined by its speed.
      • A fast shutter speed causes a shorter exposure, meaning the camera allows less light to pass through.
      • A slow shutter speed gives the camera a longer exposure, meaning more light is captured.

Example of high shutter speed:Example of low Shutter SpeedAperture:

Aperture is the opening in a lens through which light passes to enter the camera. It is easy to understand if you think about how your eyes work. As you move between bright and dark environments, the iris in your eyes either expands or shrinks, which dictates the size of your pupil. Same goes for adjusting the aperture.
