Week 5: Colour Grading in NUKE

Activity 1:

• Blur background image to get the general colour of the background.

Activity 2:

• Add grade node and change viewer from RGB to Luminance, adjust the gamma and levels so that the subject breaks at the same time as the background when making the image brighter. This matches the luminance values of the foreground and background.

• Add another grade node and adjust temperature.

• Add saturation node and adjust, in this case it was slightly lowered to match the background.

• Add a new grade node and add a roto node as a mask, then draw with the roto tool and feather it. Then, adjust the multiply slider on the grade node to add a highlight on the side of the subject, as she is standing next to a window.

• Using rotoscope brush ‘clone’ tool to paint out the yellow tracking markers.

• Track the markers with a tracker node, and then copy the transform data into the transform window of the rotoscope ‘clone’.

Assignment 1:

The first assignment is to turn one video into another using skills we have learnt in class. This includes changing the colour of the green screen, removing the pink tape and the logo on the bag, as well as adding an image to the TV which the man must walk in front of.

Assignment 2:

For this assignment we have to take the result of our first assignment and make something creative with it. I decided to make the scene into an airport. This included changing the background and the colour of the red object, as well as adding a British Airways logo and a departure timetable screen.
