Auditions Day 1!
They always say “time flies when your having fun!” and that is a perfect way to describe my time here at LCM!
Today we had our first audition for our Autumn Shows – Rags & Fiddler on the Roof!
Throughout the week leading up to the audition my vocal health was not 100% (as is always the case on the week of an audition!) as I was suffering from a sore throat and cold and therefore hampered my range when practicing and working on my audition pieces. However, it was important to not give up and remain determined to succeed! As legit style of singing is my forte, I was determined to show what I could do.
On the day of the audition I was still not at my 100% vocal health, however with a positive mindset, I warmed up and prepared myself both vocally and physically to give it the best shot that I could! After all, no one can ask for anymore than your best effort.
Sheet Music & Head shot ready, I went to my audition!
Upon entering the auditioning room, Steven introduced me to the Directors & MD’s of Fiddler & Rags. Any nerves that I had felt before instantly left. Greeted with a smile, I felt comfortable and ready to perform as I handed the pianist the sheet music and talked through my cuts with her. I had chosen “Seeing is Believing” from Aspects of Love and “Kansas City” from Oklahoma, both contrasting in style.
When now reflecting back on the audition I feel as if it went as well as it could! There is always areas you can improve on and when looking back I can think of numerous other ways I could have performed and portrayed the songs differently, to possibly make them more engaging and interesting. This is something I can reflect on, if I perform those songs again at another audition. Although I was not at 100% vocal health I feel as if the audition went well. Discussions with the pianist at the end of my audition gave me a little bit of constructive criticism with regards to a few notes within the song, which I can take on board and improve on.
The audition gave me a chance to showcase myself to industry professionals, be myself, and do the best that I could do!
