2-Cover Letter:
A boring life doesn’t suit me, because boring doesn’t match with creativity. I grew up playing video games, watching movies, and drowning, things that every kid usually does until I figured out that I can create those realities I used to see on a screen. The studies I did reflect my willingness to stimulate and improve my creative skills. Every day different ideas come up in my mind and I love thinking about the best way I can express them. Photography, videomaking, animation, drowning, and lighting are some of the many fields I try to keep updating working on my web profiles, reading about new approaches and advances, and trying new stuff every day. Being a Creative Director, at Martini Studios, gave me the chance to develop my initiative, intuition, and problem-solving skills. My challenge every day was not only to use my creativity but also to find a way to optimize my time in order to fix problems, manage deadlines and lead other editors in Asia to get the best result. The animation process is based on stop motion, starting with shooting the product in different compositions and lights and adjusting any imperfections you can find. The process is complicated because is unique, in fact, the owner invented and developed the machine I worked with. He and I were the only ones who could manage it, that’s why I was asked to teach and train other colleagues. I’m a people person, easygoing and empathetic, these soft skills helped me to give great costumer service while working as a sale assistant. I faced different situations and learned how to handle the stressful ones. I always try to be and to do the best I can, I love chatting with people about their hobbies and mine, getting to know different ways to see and do things, and sharing ideas in order to create something great. I’d like to work with people who are passionate about their job because passion can bring you everywhere.
Look where I am.

INDUSTRY INTERVIEWS
Elias Rodriguez
INDUSTRY PRACTICE.
INTERVIEWS WITH INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS: VFX SUPERVISORS ON SET AND VENDOR’S SIDE.
- Russel Dogson: Visual Effects Supervisor/ Director.
- 1-How did you get to be a VFX supervisor?
- I started as a compositor, doing the most basic jobs, roto painting, matte painting, and tracking. In addition to that my experience on set brought me to where I am now. I believe that I am a good compositor although Framestore gave me the opportunity to be a VFX supervisor where my skills from the set and my knowledge as a compositor for 10 years put me where I am now.
- 2- What can I do to get to your level? Well, my friend, that is something that you will need to earn, people will take you as a VFX supervisor or Director when you get to that level you will notice! It is something that also people around you will agree with. Proving your knowledge and skills in front of people on set and at the office will make people believe in you trust you with serious tasks, get to the deadlines with everything under control, and of course do not try to do all the important shots by yourself remember that you have people, a team that is working alongside with you. The team is the most. An important part of the task is everyone working together as one.
- 3-What do you think about my portfolio? I can see that you still studying, and you need some areas to get better at, although your photography is pretty strong, I can see there that you have some lighting and photography style that makes your portfolio very interesting, although you will need to focus your work in one direction, you cannot be good at everything. On the compositing say, I would say that you shouldn’t try to replicate shots from other shows, I am saying this, because behind those shots is a lot of people that worked to do these 5 seconds you are making. Try to do just part of them but good focus first on the small stuff and when you get better at them jump to the next step.

Gavin McKenzie:
- Compositing Supervisor at Framestore:
- 1-Do you prefer to work on the set or the vendor site?
- I would say on set because you will be able to see how the movie and the shots are made, and you will start understanding how everything works, and how every department influence on each other. For me, as a compositor being able of seeing what is happening in front of the camera helps me and my team when we need to work on the shot, that is why you will get always someone like me from the office or vendor site VFX supervisor on set.
- 2- Do you get to make any final decisions with final shots? No for the narrative side, things may be changed on the narrative, but the basics of the story are already done, pre-views. Although I will influence on the VFX shots whereas a compositor supervisor I will guide the path of the team for the result in every different shot.

Al Kang: Virtual Production Technical Director at Framestore
1-what was your first experience with the industry? And how did that make you get where you are now?
My first experience was working for Cartoon Network, drawing Ed Edd and Eddy, I got to be the lead artist for the tv show, and from there I wanted to learn more, doing different stuff. So, I got into the video game industry working on a couple of games. Doing this I got the chance to make more contacts and learn new skills using different software. And from here I have been experimenting with new tools, also using photogrammetry. I got to mix all this on his dark materials where we meet! Now working with Unreal Engine using all my different skills in virtual production.

Grant Everett: VFX supervisor 2nd Unit Director and Producer.
1-Give me some advice to grow quickly in the film industry.
There is not an easy way to get easy anywhere, but what I can tell you is about pushing yourself and always being active. Try to keep your skills updated. Also is important to make content to fill up your portfolio. However, the most important advice I can give you is to keep your contacts, you will never know when they will need you, sounds a bit like cheating but is the reality people will remember you because you help them once. Then your name will be there, for the next time top of the list. I started working in Matrix, being an assistant when they were doing the bullet shot, the times when people working on VFX were making a lot of money I things were good. But now days is more about who you know and who does help. of course, as I said you will need to keep your portfolio updated. IMDB LinkedIn.
2- where would I be able to start if I don’t want to work in the Uk doing Vfx?
I started in Australia and New Zealand where I am originally from, now I leave in New York.
The industry there is quite big, although you could go to China which I think is a good place for growth their industry there is massive, and they use Vfx constantly, mixed with good choreographies, and nice DPS. The only problem to get the job there would be visas and language.
