Brentford striker Ivan Toney was the most recent player to receive racist abuse online, with his club describing it as “spineless”. The striker posted a screenshot of his abuse after the Bees goalless draw against Birmingham last night. Brentford released a statement on Twitter that said “We stand with Ivan, and all those who continue to suffer abuse online”.

This has one of many incidents racist incidents this year in Football as Valencia midfielder Mouctar Diakhaby was allegedly racially abused by Cadiz’s Juan Cala on Sunday.
More clubs and players have spoken up about the racist abuse they receive online. Such as Premier League Legend Thierry Henry, who recently quit all social media as he believes that social media platforms are not doing enough to stop it. Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has said racist abuse on social media is the “biggest problem” in football and says that its impact “cannot be underestimated”.
