Ealing Council’s plan to reduce traffic in residential areas has raised controversy

By Ben Jamieson, Reporter

Ealing residents continue to be affected by the Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme, implemented last year. Residential road closures, the use of cameras and road blocks are some of the measures that have been affecting the Ealing neighbourhood. The Ealing Council aimed to lower the number of drivers cutting through residential areas, as well as to reduce carbon emissions, by installing the first 9 LTNs with no pre consultation, however, many have criticised the scheme  for complicating journeys for delivery drivers and emergency services.

Ealing Council has recently ended their consultation of residents over their planned second phase of LTN’s, which are to be installed in areas with high levels of non-local traffic.

We asked Dr Rupa Huq, Labour MP For Ealing Central and Acton, for her thoughts on how Ealing council is managing the second wave of LTNs.
