In nearly a months’ time Londoners will once again vote on who is going to be their Major of London and there are many candidates apart from the current incumbent Sadiq Khan for the title.
Sadiq Khan – Labour
Firstly, obviously is the current Labour Major Sadiq Khan who is going for a re-branding after his switch from his original campaign in 2020. This running is completely jobs focused an understandable decision based of the havoc caused by COVID on the country’s finances, it’s a similar style to the post war rebuilding in the 50s with a large focus on “Economic Recovery” to get London back on its feet.
Shaun Bailey – Conservative
Second is Mr Khan’s conservative opponent Shaun Bailey a member of the London Assembly since 2016, Bailey’s approach is tied to his former career as a youth worker with his campaign message pushing for change with the slogan “A Fresh start for London”. This change in his eyes would come about with a new youth centre in each borough as well as nearly a million new jobs for Londoners.
Luisa Porritt – Liberal Democrats
Thirdly is Luisa Porritt the Liberal Democrat candidate from Camden, Porritt’s campaign is based mainly around jobs and the need after the aftermath of Covid is fully shown. She also claimed that her campaign would bring the “Three Basic Needs” that a Londoner should have in homes, jobs, and clean air.
Sian Berry – Green Party
Finally, is the Green Party candidate and co-leader Sian Berry, Berry’s campaign much like Luisa Porritt’s focuses around the need for new housing for Londoners. However, unlike her rival this housing focus is also around renting in London with her saying that bringing down “skyrocketing rents” and “bringing up the standards of housing”.
