The London Assembly’s Transport Committee met to answer questions from the public, and to discuss issues concerning Transport for London and National Rail. The Assembly highlighted issues such as unequal fares for similar journeys, the introduction of cashless stations, and the use of contactless bank cards over Oyster cards. Shaun Bailey, Conservative member of both the London Assembly Transport Committee and the Greater London Authority, discussed with members of the public the loss in trust in contactless payments when traveling across London, as well as the future of the Oyster brand.
Another member of the public urged the committee to consider adding additional signage to older stations with multiple exits, and where the proper pathways are unclear. A TfL employee also requested additional members of staff at under attended stations due to an increase in fare dodging, as well as improved health and safety standards in stations with narrow walkways and high foot-traffic, and a greater number of gates at stations still under development. A representative from London Guide Dogs also shared their thoughts on the level of passenger assistance available on the London Underground, and requested that further support be provided to disabled passengers.
