Sajid Javid, the Health secretary, is aiming for GPs to go back to face to face appointments in the upcoming weeks. However GPs are concerned that this will only lead to rising in infections, the British Medical Association have accused Javid of ‘failing to understand what complexity of challenges family doctors face.’

The BMA hasĀ also directed GPs not to take on any new patients. The organisation has warned that giving patients guaranteed face to face appointments will lead to a mass exodus of doctors from the profession. The BMA’s own figures show that there are just 0.45 fully qualified GPs per 1000 patients in England and this strategy by the health secretary is increasing pressure when GPs are already exhausted on the back of covid.
