London Mayor and chair-elect Sadiq Khan attended the recent ‘Our Last, Big Chance’ environmental conference hosted by C40 Cities, a network of majors from the world’s 100 largest cities. He spoke of his efforts to improve air quality in London, such as the recent expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone across the North and South Circular roads.

‘Our Last, Big Chance: Why our future depends on action taken today in the world’s cities’, a virtual and in-person event that was held at Glasgow City Chambers, was attended by representatives of over 1000 cities. The event began with Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti announcing the successful execution of C40 Cities’ UN supported Race to Zero campaign, before passing the torch to Major Sadiq Khan to become the chair-elect.

Major Khan then outlined his own plans for the event’s climate leadership network, including the expansion of ‘Breath Global’, an expanded version of London’s own air quality programmes, worldwide across 100 major cities. Mayor Khan also pledged to dedicate two thirds of C40’s budget to supporting Global South Cities that have been most harshly impacted by climate change.
