Lidl becomes the UK’s highest paying supermarket

Lidl has become the highest paying supermarket in the UK, with rises in pay going up 6%, this pay rise plan will cost Lidl £18m and is part of the firm’s UK investment plan. The wage increase will start in March 2022.

The pay will increase from £9.50 to £10.10 outside London and £10.85 to £11.30 within London. The pay rise was put in place to ‘retain current employees and to also attract new workers.’

Lidl currently has 850 stores in the UK with aims to open 50 more new stores across the country over the next 12 months. This would bolster Lidl’s coverage in the UK to 1000 stores by 2023. Lidl’s Chief Executive Christian Härtnagel said ‘ we have ambitious plans to grow our business across Great Britain…’
