New build homes across England must have electric car charging points installed by 2022, according to Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
This is part of the government’s push for fewer carbon emissions to help meet plans to reach net zero by 2030.
However, Labour’s response to the plans wasn’t enthusiastic — it highlighted the geographical disparity between the Southeast and the rest of the country for charging points. The party said that buying electric cars is often not accessible for lower- and middle-income families.
