Wednesday the 8th of 2021 or in other words Rainbow Laces is a campaign that started back in 2014 to raise awareness of homophobia in football as well as spread inclusion throughout the sport.
As mentioned, inclusion is a big part of the campaign, and the actual start of the campaign was encouraged due to the quite hostile atmosphere associated with football in England.
Stonewall an LGBTQ rights charity reporting that 33% of LGBTQ+ people who participate or follow the sport are not out to anyone in their sporting life.
Moreover, 20% of sports fans think anti-LGBTQ+ language is harmless if it’s just meant as banter also according to Stonewall.
Recent moves in Premier League football have been taken to improve inclusion with Leicester City posting a rainbow flag in support of the movement on their Twitter account.
