The UK’s travel chiefs have expressed their dismay after this week’s covid update delivered by Prime Minister Boris Johnson suggesting decisions still have to be made on international travel.

This came after the Business Travel Association chief executive Clive Wratten expressed his frustration in the BTA response, stating that the “pathway” for trade and travel is important but “This has once again been kicked down the road” by the government in the PMs talk on the 5th of April on easing restrictions across the country.

The majority of anger came from the Prime Ministers statement on the final decision on travel, with Johnson stating that he was “hopeful” that travel could restart on May 17th but then clarifying that more data was going to be needed before a decision could be made. Mr Johnson also mentioned that the government’s decision came from a desire did not to see coronavirus spread throughout the country from abroad.

This has shortly come after more news broke on the new traffic light system attached to international travel with green signifying that tests would need to be taken before departure and returning, but without any required self-isolation when coming back to the UK. In comparison to the red-listed countries in which travel of any kind to and from the listed country would be restricted.
