For the sound collaboration, I teamed up with Laura Paron, from Electronic Music Production. She was excited for the collaboration and had plenty of ideas for music and foley. We mostly communicated over WhatsApp and Mail, and also met up to discuss ideas and overall the plan for the project. I gave Laura creative freedom to do whatever she wanted, my only request was that the sound should start quiet and build up throughout the video.
We agreed on starting the scene with relaxing music to create an idyllic forest atmosphere, here I proposed birds chirping and the sound of branches in the wind. Further forward the idea was that the speed of the sound would drastically increase and turn darker. In the VFX Sound Template I wrote that I wanted some weaponry sound effects, like swooshing sounds from swords in action. Other than that I was completely open for any idea she might have, and was excited to see what she would create.

To add to the dramatic, she added some warrior screams to the last draft to highlight the impact of the war. Including the screams, she also added the sound of burning flames at the end as the sight of the burning castle is the last thing you will see.
Work in Progress
This is a screenshot Laura sent showcasing the different layers of sound in her project.
0-28″: bird + nature sounds ans a soft vocal pad (Laura’s voice sampled and turned into a synth).
28″-52″: some ominous percussive synth sounds appear, with a dog’s bark, some highly processed and distorted nature sounds and a heartbeat.
52″-1’05”: boom sounds start accompanying the other sound FX.
1′-1’48”: Sound of fire and various sword sounds.
