Week 01

Introduction to Houdini

Learning the fundamentals of the houdini and its interface was how we began the first week and the first class of the module. We completed some basic tasks like bringing in the box and adding color after becoming somewhat familiar with the software and learning a little bit about the tools.

Cube Node

Adding Color

Making board

Primitives

Using Transform node

Cheese:

We built a cheese and a cutting board as part of an exercise later in the lesson. which we began by bringing a cube and modifying the scale.

Making board

UV Node was added to create UVs for the cutting board so that the texture would be evenly spaced around the board.

UV of the board

Applying texture which was already provided.

Applying textures

Placing cube to make the cheese.

Puzzles

We were provided with some puzzle files for an exercise, where we had to arrange nodes in the correct order to achieve a final result. This exercise was incredibly helpful, as it deepened our knowledge of node usage, helping us understand where and how to apply them effectively. It also provided valuable practice in reinforcing what we’ve learned so far, building a strong foundation for future classes.

Week 02

Animation:

This week, we learned how to create a simple animation, focusing on a domino animation. This involved understanding key principles of animation, such as timing and sequencing, to achieve the realistic effect of dominoes falling in succession. It was a great introduction to animating objects with realistic motion and provided hands-on experience with animation basics.

Week 03

Oceans and Destruction

This week, we learned how to create ocean waves and work with basic brick animation.

Bricks falls

Week 04

Introduction to Vellum

This week, we learned about Vellum, a feature in Houdini that simulates materials like cloth.

Week 6

Collision

This week we learn how to make collision with different elements.

Week 7

Destruction of Different Materials

Week 08

Using Camera Track adding Assets and effects

Week 09

Week 10

Flame Thrower

Assignment 01

Magical Beam Effect:

For this project, I focused on creating magical effects, as it was something I really wanted to learn.

I started by importing the Mixamo character into the scene view.

Mixamo Characters

Bringing the Mixamo Animation

Adding a geometry for the floor plane.

Floor

Bringing tube in to make the Beam and done basic keyframe animation.

Making Beam with Tube

After that I added Transform Node to give it a proper angle.

Later I added Normal Node and Delete Node to delete the tube after certain frame.

Normal and Delete Node.

Later I added Mountain Node to bring randomness.

After that, I added Trail and Pyro Source Node to make fire element.

Pyro Source node

Bringing Volume Rasterize Attributes Node which makes a light smoke around the beam.

Volume Rasterize Attributes Node

Adding Pyro Solver Node and making the flame.

Now Adding Pyro Bake Volume Node and changing the color of the smoke and fire.

Changing Color on Color Ramp

Changing the color of the Fire.

Finally it was ready to render.

Final Ready for Render

Finally, added a Camera and Environmental Light to render the scene.
