The Character Animation

WEEK 1 – INTRODUCTION TO    ANIMATION – Bouncing Ball

I used this video as a reference for the ball bounce and chose a tennis ball for my animation.

I have selected the tennis ball bounce as my reference.

The following animation shows the final bouncing ball and its motion trail.

I have screen-captured a video where I demonstrate how I created the animation of a bouncing ball.

WEEK 2 – The Obstacle course

This week, we learned about basic keyframe animation skills and the weight mechanics concerning a bouncing ball. I added more life to the ball animation with Squash and Stretch.

Assignment 1: Basic Weight Mechanics

This is my first assignment in Maya. I’ve watched several reference videos of bouncing balls and created my own obstacle course for submission.

I am using primary colors to add vibrancy to my objects.

I first placed the key positions of the ball, and then I added movements in between such as Squash and Stretch.

I made the final adjustments in the graph editor.

I added a camera movement to make my animation more interesting.

I have created a screen capture video demonstrating the animation of a bouncing ball and basic weight mechanics.

WEEK 3 – Lattice deformer, ‘Sack of flour’ and Arm Rig

This week we learned about character rigs, including how Disney uses Stretch and Squash to exaggerate characters in their animations.

WEEK 4 – Inverse Kinematics | Animation Output

WEEK 5 – Posing and ‘Head Turn’

I have chosen the following animated head movement as my reference.

I have selected this head turn clip as my reference.

My final head turn animation was created using Arnold Render. I generated “png” sequences in Maya and compiled them with Adobe Premiere.

WEEK 10 – Character Animation-Jump Animation

This week, we learned how to create a jump animation and focused on giving the illusion of weight, anticipation, and overlapping animation while considering the forces acting on the character.

I have taken screenshots of the character’s main poses. The poses are listed as follows.

Assignment 2

Character Animation-JumpAnimation

This is my second assignment in Maya.

11 Second Animation

Lip Sync – Controls and Viseme Blocking

I have selected a clip from the following reference video.

My selected clip is as follows.

I separated the audio from the above clip and exported it as a WAV file, a compatible audio format for MAYA.

I placed the reference video files on my Premiere timeline and switched back and forth with Maya to ensure that the lip movements and actions were in sync.

My final animation is as follows.

The video that follows showcases the process of creating an 11-second animation.
