Week 1:
Introduction to NUKE
Pressing TAB in the node graph allows you to add a node.

Week 2:
Learning the basics of rotoscoping in NUKE
The goal of this exercise was to dive into the fundamentals of roto, mastering the technique and learning how to apply it to bigger, more complex shots. We kicked things off by focusing on the hero frame, and our task was to roto out one of the pieces of candy.
The hero frame is the golden moment when the object is most visible—perfectly captured in the shot with minimal motion, allowing us to see every detail clearly and avoid any motion blur.
Week 3:
In this class, we tackled advanced roto techniques with a focus on precision and efficiency! Our mission was to nail down the hero frame, kicking off with a quick review of the hand wave footage. We started by isolating the thumb with a small shape, and that’s when it clicked for me—the real secret to mastering complex roto work is breaking the hand into smaller, manageable segments and handling each piece step by step. It’s all about breaking down the challenge to make the process smoother and more effective!
Week 4:
This week, we explored various keying techniques, working on three different shots, each with its own unique challenges. Our goal was to fix specific issues in each shot, giving us the chance to practice and master different keying methods
Week 5:
This week, we continued working on the shot of the woman, focusing on better blending her into the background. We started by adjusting the luma, color, and saturation to make her colors match the environment. This involved tweaking the blacks, highlights, and slightly desaturating her. Finally, we added a grade node with a roto shape to adjust the exposure on just the left side of her, creating the effect that light from the windows was hitting her.
Week 6:
This week, we tackled a challenging shot where we needed to remove a section of a moving sign in the background. Since the sign shifts across the screen, we dove into the world of tracking! We added a tracking node to follow its movement, and the best part? Nuke automatically tracks the object, but if needed, we can jump in and fine-tune it manually for perfect results. It was a great opportunity to get hands-on with the tracking process!
Week 7:
Roto Paint Node
This week, we dove into the Roto Paint Node—an incredibly powerful tool perfect for tasks like removing tracking markers. With its precision and flexibility, it’s a game-changer for cleaning up compositions and taking our work to the next level. This tool is a must-have for refining every shot with ease!
Week 8:
Complex cleanup
Week: 9
This week was all about revision on everything we have learnt so far.
1 Assignment:
The task was to recreate the video exactly as it was.
Background Removal: I kicked things off by using the Keylight tool to completely erase the background, replacing it with a vibrant blue color.
TV Screen Adjustment: To adjust the screen content, I added a color bar, used a Transform node to scale and position it perfectly
Pink Details in the Background: I tackled the pink details in the background by using RotoPaint to cover them up, cleaning up the shot with precision.
Tim Passing Through the Screen: For Tim’s movement, I isolated him using a Roto node as he passed through the screen. Then, I fine-tuned the Merge nodes to make sure his transition was smooth and seamless.
Logo on the Luggage: To hide the logo on the luggage, I created a black square with Roto, matching the luggage’s color. A Tracking node helped me follow the luggage’s movement, and I used a Grade node to adjust the color and make sure the black square blended in perfectly.

For the second assignment I decided to change up Assessment 1.
