Week 1:
In today’s class we went over the basic overview of the module and what to expect. We also went over how unreal engine software is becoming relevant to visual effects. Lastly, we went over the basics of the unreal engine interface and was given the task to create an obstacle course.
My attempt at the obstacle course:
Week 2:
In this week’s class we looked at how to make materials in Unreal engine. Also, there was a guest lecturer who showed us how to make our different clothing materials more realistic. In class we were tasked with creating 8 materials of our choice, using any resources we seem fit. We had to use the following techniques & Material Inputs:
- Macro Texture.
- Material Instance.
- Emissive.
- Opacity.
I used 2 of each.
First attempt at creating a material:
Here are the 8 materials I made:
For homework we were tasked to create 4 more materials:
Week 3:
In this week’s class we learnt how to create and texture landscapes, create foliage and model in unreal engine. During the session we made a landscape and populated it with trees to create a forest. We also textured our landscape to create mountains and cliffs. For independent work we were tasked with creating a wooden cabin in our landscape.
Below is my attempt at creating a wooden cabin in my forest landscape:
Week 4:
In this week’s class we went over the different lighting in unreal engine. We put different types of lighting on our materials from week 2.
Below are the results:
Independent Study:
For independent study we were tasked with adding lighting to our week 3 wooden cabins.
Below are my results:
Week 5:
In this week’s class we learnt how to use camera mode in Unreal Engine to create different shots and cut scenes. We also learnt how to key the camera in Unreal Engine to create moving camera shots. Lastly, we learnt how to move objects other than the camera during a cut scene.
Week 6:
In this week’s class we were introduced to blueprints, the visual coding nodes in Unreal Engine. Below are some pictures we did during the lesson.
See in pictures below:
Week 7:
In this week’s lecture we went over how to make advanced materials and shaders. During class we made a water texture and for our weekly activity we made shader.
See in pictures below:
Week 8:
During this week’s lesson we learnt how about particle effects. Our workshop was to create a simple partice system and our weekly activity was to continue working on our final projects.

Week 9:
In th is week’s class we learnt about advanced blueprints. For this week’s assignment we made a working health bar. Our weekly activity was to continue working on our final projects.
Week 10:
