The ExPERT Academy runs two programmes accredited by the Staff and Educational Developers Association (SEDA). Details are provided below.

SEDA Postgraduate Research Supervision

This programme accredited by SEDA as part of their CPD framework, aims to develop and/or enrich research supervisors’ knowledge of, and professional practice in, postgraduate supervision. The programme offers an opportunity for participants to:

  • challenge their understanding of what it means to be a supervisor in the 21st century
  • think about their role as supervisors
  • understand how students learn
  • rethink their approaches to supervision
  • share experiences and practices

There is an emphasis on the development of reflective practice so that participants can use that ability to enhance their professional development and the students’ learning experiences.

A fee of £250 applies to participants who are not members of UWL.

You can book for up coming courses on Eventbrite and more information is available here.

SEDA Accredited Mentoring and Coaching course

The course runs over a period of 6 months. Staff wishing to take the course must attend 3 1/2 days compulsory face to face sessions. In addition they must have a colleague to mentor throughout the duration of the course. For this reason participants must discuss the course with their line manager prior to signing up for the course.

The course will develop your skills in mentoring and coaching and will guide you in providing a collegial and supportive mentoring experience for your mentees. You will have the opportunity to put mentoring principles into practice, and experience both being mentored and acting as a mentor.

There are four pieces of assessment you are required to pass spaced evenly throughout the course and you are encouraged to maintain your reflective journal contemporaneously, so that you can draw on this rich source of evidence for your last assessments.

All taught sessions must be attended and all assessment artefacts must be passed in order to obtain your qualification.

The next course starts on February 24th, 2020. This first week is fully online and self-directed. All relevant information will be available on the Blackboard site for the course.

The dates for the compulsory face to face sessions are:

March 4th, 2020

April 1st, 2020

April 29th, 2020

May 27th, 2020.

You can sign up for the course here. Places are limited to 24 and UWL staff will receive preference over those from outside.

Fees may apply to participants who are not members of UWL. For further information please email
