Welcome to the London School of Film, Media and Design’s technical facilities.

We have a highly experienced multi-talented team of technicians available to help and support you throughout your time here and I encourage you to engage with them for your projects and assignments so they can help you achieve your ideas.

They have worked hard to produce this site, which is aimed at making your experience better and more productive. It has been designed as a quick reference guide to the most important things you need to know to help you through your course.

The technical team are here to help you and assist you with your technical questions.

I hope this latest version of the technical handbook proves to be a very useful guide and is improved further each year with your feedback.

How to use the LSFMD Tech Handbook

The Tech Handbook is designed to provide you with information about the technical facilities available from the London School of Film Media and Design. The Tech Handbook also contains the policies, procedures, and rules that the School has adopted and you are expected to follow as a student at the University of West London.

A number of the policies, procedures, and rules included in the Tech Handbook are referred to in your student handbook. Some form part of your university code of conduct with the University of West London and some do not. It is important to read the Tech Handbook carefully. If you have any questions about its contents, please raise them with the technical team in the first instance or;

  • Head of School LSFMD , Paul Lohneis
  • Head of Subject, Design, and Communication, Dorota Watson
  • Head of Subject, Film, Media, and English, Dr. John Hillman
  • LSFMD Technical Team Leader, Marilyn Forkan

The Tech Handbook will be updated as and when changes occur.

Your Voice

The University, the School, and the Technical team strive to make your experience during your course as interesting, inspiring, and enriching as possible. We wish to allow you to develop and practice skills that you will use later on in your career.

Occasionally there may be issues with technical resources and how we go about organising the usage of those resources. We are very happy to receive feedback; this can be done via your Student Representative, but if you wish to have a chat or to email the contact Technician (info about how to contact techs can be found in the section Studios, workshops, and facility rooms) in the area where there is a problem, this is also an option.

Please bear in mind that many of the rules, codes of conduct, and terms that we lay down are in place for your safety, the safety of others, and the fair usage of equipment. We would never single out an individual or a group to stop them from having fair use of our equipment.
