Inductions

Inductions are there to enable you to start working in our technical facilities and equipment in a safe and correct manner. They will give you a good grounding in what equipment is available and a foundation on how to use the equipment.

Most inductions are held at the start of the year as part of your course. It is really important to attend these sessions as you may not able to use the equipment unless you have been inducted.

It is possible to arrange a special induction where the timetabled event has been missed. However, due to numbers it may be a while before we schedule another session. Please speak to the technician in question for more information.

There is also more specialist equipment (for example high end cameras, complex print techniques) that will require induction in smaller groups when the course structure calls for more advanced techniques. Please see the contact technician for more information on this and/or take a look at your course Module Study Guide.

Where equipment (mostly Photography, Print Bureau and Film) is booked via our on-line booking system, SiSo (Stock in, Stock out) you will find you cannot book out rooms or equipment until you have been registered as having an induction.

Please see the section ‘How to book equipment, rooms and key facilities’ for further information about SiSo (you will have an induction on SiSo too), but the system will flag up that you need training for certain equipment:
