Introduction

Welcome to the teaching section of Teaching Hub, the one-stop-shop for all your teaching questions as a lecturer, tutor or facilitator of learning.  Whether you are new to teaching in higher education or are an experienced teacher in higher education, this page will give you what you need to get started.

Teaching at UWL is informed by the University Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy, the Assessment and Feedback policy and the UWL Pedagogy.  We are a very student-centred teaching institution.

All of these are informed by the University strategy and our Graduate Attributes. You can learn more about engaging students and being effective in the classroom on these pages. In addition, you can find out more about how we embed these strategies and policies throughout our curricula by exploring our pages on curriculum design.

What is good teaching?

Good teaching is about engaging your students with the activities you set them to do, to achieve the intended learning outcomes. It is not about your teaching, as much as it is about their learning. You want them to be engaged both inside and outside of the classroom. This is where our UWL Flex Pedagogical model comes in.

Incorporating TEL (Technology-enhanced Learning)

The effective use of technology can enhance your students’ learning experience. At UWL we have the UWL Flex Pedagogical model, that incorporates the use of technology into pre, during and post activities for the students. All academic staff are encouraged to use the model to structure the learning for their students in this way.

Policies for Practice

Make sure you familiarise yourself with the policies for practice that all academic staff should be aware of.
