Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and an increase in readily available AI applications has brought about rapid changes to the way we need to prepare our students for the ever-changing demands of the job market.

This year’s conference will focus on best practice in relation to embedding AI into the curriculum and how to harness its affordances to enhance not only teaching and learning practice but also student outcomes. It will provide a space to discuss current challenges, share best practice and celebrate the innovations and achievements in relation to the following sub-themes:

1) Generative AI to support curriculum design (e.g. inclusive curricula)

Contributions to this theme could include but are not limited to, e.g. the creation of personalised learning pathways for students from diverse backgrounds and abilities; ethical and pedagogical implications of using generative AI to design curricula; how to use generative AI tools to enhance creativity and innovation in curriculum design and development; etc.

2) Pedagogies to support AI, VR and simulation: Methods of learning, teaching and assessment

Contributions to this theme could include but are not limited to, e.g. how AI, VR and simulation can be integrated into blended learning environments to create immersive and engaging learning experiences; best practice and challenges of using AI, VR and simulation to support learning outcomes, assessment and feedback; etc

3) Developing students’ AI skills, literacies and competencies

Contributions to this theme could include but are not limited to, e.g. curriculum frameworks that embed AI skills, literacies and competencies across different disciplines and levels of study; reflection on AI literacy initiatives to increase students’ awareness and understanding of the opportunities and risks of AI; strategies and resources for developing and/or assessing students’ AI skills, literacies and competencies in formal and informal learning contexts; etc.

4) Sustainable citizenship and AI

Contributions to this theme could include but are not limited to, e.g. the role of AI in addressing the global challenges of sustainability, social justice and democracy; the use of AI to develop solutions for real-world problems related to sustainable development goals; ethical and social implications of AI for citizenship education and civic engagement; etc

5) AI assisted teaching practice (including materials design, marking, etc.)

Contributions to this theme could include but are not limited to, e.g. how AI can enhance teaching practice by providing personalised support, feedback and guidance for teachers and learners; perceptions and experiences of using AI assisted teaching tools and platforms; strategies to evaluate and select AI assisted teaching solutions that are aligned with the learning objectives and pedagogical approaches; case studies of AI tools to enhance learning and teaching; pedagogical and technical skills required for teachers to effectively use AI in learning and teaching; etc.
